Totally Thoracoscopic Pulmonary Vein Epicardial Ablation
& Left Atrial Maze Procedure

More than 1.5 million Americans have
Atrial Fibrillation - - Atrial Fibrillation (A-Fib) is caused by a malfunction of the heart’s electrical system.
This disease is characterized by an irregular heartbeat within the upper chambers of the heart.
While some people diagnosed with A-Fib have no noticeable symptoms, there are many patients who experience a range of symptoms including:
Palpitations and, or Erratic Heartbeat - Dizziness - and/or Nausea - Fluttering Sensation - Fatigue	- Shortness of Breath
At times, symptoms can become severe enough to have a profound adverse effect on the quality of life -
but even more serious, is the fact that having A-Fib increases a person’s risk of STROKE by 5x, and doubles the risk of MORTALITY!
Treatment for A-Fib varies from person to person, and may include medications and simple lifestyle changes.
When these methods are ineffective, a patient may become a candidate for a procedure called
Totally Thoracoscopic Pulmonary Vein Epicardial Ablation. This minimally-invasive procedure, performed
only on a carefully-selected group of patients, is typically done through very small incisions in the chest –
which eliminates the need for the patient to be on a bypass machine, boasts a shorter hospital stay, and a much
quicker recovery time than an open-chest procedure. -
Dr. Divyakant B. Gandhi, Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon, along with local Electrophysiologist,
Dr. John H. Ip, began performing minimally-invasive surgery for Atrial Fibrillation in July 2007. --
